Frank Collins asked:

Don’t the cool guys seem to always pick some of the fastest and sleekest designed cars? Well, then it should be no surprise that James Bond will be sporting a serious and speedy vehicle, namely the 2009 Aston Martin DBS in the upcoming film “Quantum of Solace”.  The V12 exotic sports car has a 6.0 liter engine with an exquisite interior hand finished that is attractive to common and rich folk alike. The aerodynamic design makes it even better suited for espionage.

The Aston Martin DBS zooms from zero to sixty in just 4.2 seconds. Underneath the hood, it puts out up to 510 hp.  At only 3737 pounds of weight this exotic feline will hit the roads a blazing and top out at 191 mph according to reliable testing sources.

The 2009 DBS provides an optional six-speed automatic transaxle, 2+2 seats, 20-inch wheels and an audio by Bang & Olufsen. The design and layout is the same as the DB9 with a bit more sleekness. The body is made of aluminum and carbon fiber. One of the new colors for this model is aptly named Quantum Silver

For 2009, the Aston Martin DBS comes equipped with new vented carbon ceramic brake discs which are a first for an off-track Aston Martin. These are custom designed to align with the double wishbone alloy suspension that features damper control which utilizes two separate valves to set the damper for five different positions. This feature is an important trait if you want to possess instant adjustment of the car’s handling characteristics and out maneuver the thumbs up road warriors trying to beat you to the club or international airport.

Gentlemen, if you are considering getting one, not as a spy, what could possibly stop you when you can rent one first to get a feel of the superior handling and awesome design before using a fraction of available funds to acquire it for a cool $265,000.

James Russell asked:

Great news for Jaguar fanatics: Ford President Mulally has recently announced that Jaguar is no longer for sale. Aston Martin however, will be under a new owner by the end of this year.

Mulally, who joined Ford last year after working for 37 years at plane-maker Boeing, told reporters, “Jaguar is not for sale at this time” —this statement of the new boss doesn’t necessarily mean that they are closing the possibility for future Jaguar sale. CEO Mulally just wants to give Jaguar a chance to fully re-establish itself and the new XF sports sedan is going to be used as the key model in revitalizing the range of Jaguars.

The XF sports sedan has made its worldwide debut at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show as a concept car but according to managing director Bibiana Boeiro the car would be produced by early 2008, as replacement for the S-Type. It will also be using the XF nameplate and will be equipped with only top-of-the-line Ford auto parts like Ford tie rod end.

The C-XF is a design venture between Jaguar design director Ian Callum and advanced design studio boss Julian Thompson. The C-XF was the sort of car Jaguar that Ford should have been making for some time. This car represents a break from the overt retro styling of the XJ, S-Type and X-Type models, using clever design cues to create a new look for the struggling Jaguar brand.

According to Callum the design philosophy behind the XF is: “Sports sedans were Jaguar’s mantle with cars such as the Mk2 and Series 1 XJ of the 1960s – and we’re having it back! But we’re not harking back to another era for the sake of it. Instead we need to recognize design elements and move forward in a modern and contemporary way.”

He further stated that the car’s core design values were “purity, visual dynamism and beauty” and the low roof and wedge-shaped lower body of the XF gives the impression of visual latent power. The interior features a very different take on Jaguar’s traditional wood and leather finish. The XF still makes use of the wood and leather finish but the wood has been scorched black while the leather has been treated to look more like carbon fiber. It’s definitely far from the burr walnut and cream Connolly hides.

The XF is just one of the series of new cars under development that will replace all three Jaguar salons by the end of the decade. By the year 2009 a new breed of XJ Jaguars will be produced and said to be more radical than the XF. The rumored Land Rover Freelander–based crossover vehicle that will replace the X-Type is also coming as confirmed by Jaguar executives during the Detroit Auto Show.

James Todman asked:

The latest Bond car for the film “Quantum of Solace” is the Aston Martin DBS. Low-profile 20inch car tyres, smooth lines and curves, flared wheel arches and an overstated front grill; it is the epitomy of British cool with which to save the world.

The Aston Martin’s 6.0-litre V12 engine has a distinctive throaty roar that is capable of 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 191mph.

This has to rate as one of Bond’s best looking cars but to compare I have compiled a list of 5 other classic Bond cars:

1) Recently voted the most iconic car of all time, the Aston Martin DB5 appeared in ‘Thunderball’, ‘Goldfinger’ and more recently ‘Casino Royal’.

It was originally introduced in 1963. Its film debut was in the 1964 Goldfinger, starring alongside Sean Connery. Its distinctive silver livery, streamlined bodywork and large front grill was new for its time.

However the aesthetically pleasing body hid a vast array of lethal surprises to confound even the most troublesome of Bond’s enemies. You may remember a scene in Goldfinger where one rear brake light spurted oil onto the road. And the other released triple-spiked nails to burst the car tyres of the pursuing villains.

Other clever features devised by Q included a revolving licence plate, an exhaust that expelled smoke-screen canisters and wheel hubs that revealed knives to slash car tyres.

2) The white Lotus Elite used by Roger Moore in 1977 ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ surprised everyone with its ability to be driven underwater.

In an attempt to escape a pursuing helicopter the Lotus was driven off a pier into the sea. At the time you would have thought this was the end for the car. But with typical Bond creativity the car tyres retract and it was transformed into an operational submarine, complete with fins and a periscope. The persistent helicopter soon meets its demise with a missile fired from the car beneath the water.

3) The 1987 film ‘The Living Daylights’ saw a return to the Aston Martin. This Aston Martin V8 had a powerful engine to compliment its macho looks. It used a fuel injection system that replaced carburetion. Due to the compact nature of this new technology the car could be designed with a flat bonnet, unlike the curved bonnets of its predecessors.

As with any Bond car there were a number of clever additions including self retractable spikes in the car tyres for extra grip on icy surfaces, lasers behind the front hubcaps and missile launchers behind the headlights.

4) It was bold move not to use a British manufactured car in the 1999 ‘The World Is Not Enough’ but BMW Z8 soon won over the Bond fan. Its retro styling and red leather interior was backed up by a 400-horsepower V8 engine that had a top speed of 158mph.

Hidden accessories included missile launchers in the side vents and a windscreen that displayed important data. The car could be operated remotely using the key chain.

5) The Aston Martin was back in the 2002 ‘Die Another Day’ starring Pierce Brosnan. This time it was the V12 Vanquish, sometimes referred to as ‘a DB9 on steroids’.

The classic styled V12 nearly met its match when confronted with the villain’s Jaguar XKR. But the front mounted Gatling gun, rocket launchers in the doors and bombs in the boot soon put paid to that.

Two other clever features, which eventually won the battle for Bond, were the car’s ability to become invisible and the spikes hidden in the car tyres. The latter helped the car drive up an ice wall to avoid the fast approaching enemy, causing the Jaguar to have a unceremonious demise at the bottom of a lake.

As wonderful as the Bond cars are, thankfully features like spikes in car tyres have not become common place on our modern vehicles. If they ever do be sure to consult a specialist before changing a punctured car tyre.

Important Things with Demetri Martin is a series airing on Comedy Central starring comedian Demetri Martin. The show is produced by Jon Stewart’s Busboy Productions The show contains stand-up and prop comedy by Martin, as well as taped sketches.

Jon Stewart took an active role in “shepherding” the pilot. Reuters reports: ‘Lauren Corrao, executive VP of original programming and development at Comedy Central, noted that Martin’s style of humor is nothing like the sketch shows the network has previously tried. “When we were in the throes of postproduction, Jon went into the office and editing room and worked with Demetri on the final cuts,” she said.

The pilot puts Martin’s sly, thoughtful manner to use by having all the segments riff on “the important things” about a certain idea or object. The first two episodes were about “Timing” and “Power.” Future episodes will give the same treatment to everything from apples to “what happens after we die,” he said. Tracy Dawson asked:

In Korean, Hyundai means modern or modernity. And the Hyundai Motor Company and the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, is a company based in South Korea which has been known to be a manufacturer of automobiles and vehicles. In fact, in the mentioned country, Hyundai is the largest creator of modern vehicles. In the world ranking, the company is considered to be the seventh largest car maker. Along with vehicles and automobiles, Hyundai also creates Hyundai auto body parts for the various Hyundai owners around the globe.

However, as modern as Hyundai and Hyundai’s name may seem, there are various reports that the vehicle manufacturer has been considered to be both a brand and a company with the best and also the worst products. Such a kind of title would seem to be quite demeaning for the company and could also affect their sales.

So what would be the basis for such a kind of claim? Well, according to reports, experts, and to those who have taken Hyundai vehicles for a spin, the type of vehicles that the company has is quite contrasting. An example would be the Hyundai NF Sonata and the Daewoo Statesman which are both vehicles from the company. The former is the best seller for this year, 2006, while on the other hand, the latter has been found somewhere along the lowest when it comes to sales. Such a turn of events could quite be confusing on the end of consumers and they might actually have to take second thoughts on purchasing a vehicle from Hyundai.

You see, the Hyundai NF Sonata has took the best selling model record for this year. In fact, even at the very start of this year, the vehicle has constantly been riding on such a kind of success. It has already had 94,175 units sold just during the first ten months, and this statistic is according to the Korea Automobile Manufacturer’s Association or KAMA.

On the other hand, it is sad to note that the Daewoo Statesman has suffered from quite a low number of sales, even despite the fact that its family has been quite popular in the market.

IC asked:

Ford is a well known brand across the world, it owns 33% of Mazda known by its modern cars featured in films such as the Fast and the Furious, Jaguar, Aston Martin and many others. From its many car models, one of the most famous is the Mustang. Manufactured and engineered to be a muscle car, this particular car model stands away from the rest by it unique design and power. The best part is that due to this model’s reputation the company keeps improving and redesigning it to deliver a high quality driving machine every single time.

Ford Mustangs are highly customizable sport cars and in recent years have shown many modifications to its design. The wheelbase in both versions (convertible and coupe) are 101.3 inches, the curb weight varies just a tiny bit from the convertible to the coupe models, the curb weight of a mustang 2 door convertible is 3257 pounds while the two door coupe is 3077 pounds. As far as fuel capacity both models, convertible and coupe can hold up to 15.4 gallons. Both models can comfortably accommodate 4 passengers.

As far as design, second and third Mustang generations were not as good as the first one but the machinery quality improved. Second and third generations range from 1974-1993. During the 1980s Mustangs were going through a hard transition when Ford announced that they would replace the rear-wheel drive Mustang with a Mazda-derived four wheel drive version, luckily for them and its clients the fourth generation of Mustangs came along, this generation of fords is almost as welcomed as the first due to the significant redesign this model went through.

The 1994 Mustang coupe was starting to show signs of potential and greatness but it wasn’t until 1995 when the GTS model was introduced to the market. In 1996 Mustang’s engine went through a major upgrade, this is when the Windsor 5.0 L engine was replaced by 215 horse power 4.6L SOHC Modular V8 engine and in 1998 the SOHC engine was increased to 225 HP through aggressive PCM calibration a larger exhaust and a modified fuel system.

As far as power, the 3.8 V6 engine sent developed 145-190 horsepower, the GT 5.0L V8 sends 240 hp to the back axle.

In 1994-2004 models Mustang GT’s power was increased to 260hp and consumers have loved this car ever since, that’s not even mentioning the awesome “MODs” available which include new decals, bumpers, paint work, rims, etc. Not only it is extremely reliable and stylish but many consumers have reported that it’s stereo system beats any other manufacturer-installed car stereo in the market, it has an extremely good bass, the midrange is perfectly set as well as the highs.

Aston Martin is also an outstanding fast and high end Ford-owned driving machine which delivers great power, speed and style but that’s another article.

Martin Van Zyl asked:

No one likes the dark WHEN YOU ENTER A PITCH DARK ROOM the first thing you want to do is turn the light on. But wouldn’t you rather have the room be well-lit when you enter? Of course you would. When you leave your customers a message that says, “Call me back,” to them it feels like walking into a dark room. The same goes for letting somebody know there is phone for them, but not letting them know who it is. In effect, this means, be ready for anything! Like good telephone etiquette, good advertising never asks the customer to walk into darkness. A good ad will describe exactly what the customer can expect when he walks into your place of business. No person takes action until he has seen himself taking such action in his mind. We always imagine doing a thing before we do it. If you can cause your customer to imagine using your product or service before they have made the choice to do so, you’re headed for a sale. A good ad artfully describes what awaits the customer. Do your ads take your customer through the entire experience? Do your ads make your customer see, taste and feel your products? A good ad will cause your customer to “see” himself doing what you want him to do. If you’re persistent, he will someday transfer his imagined experience into actual experience. The longer you keep it up, the better. Ads that whip a customer into immediate action work less and less the longer they run. Ever wonder why those infomercials only do well during their first week or two of being on television? Or why the hottest new diet pill never really sticks around that long (even though it was a “wonder” drug). Do you have the patience to invest in doing it right? Can you write ads that cause the customer to experience your products in his imagination? If not, start learning how. It is both classy and profitable to describe to your customer what he will experience the moment he steps through your door. No one likes walking into darkness. - Martin To see how Martin can teach you ways to keep your light burning, check out his sit at www.martinvanzyl.com

Vehicles are more than just heavy steel; it means unleashing torque and horsepower to make a whole new difference in driving. And they are in for a treat! This year, automakers roll out the red carpet to flaunt their power lineup with incredible levels of styling, performance and nuance. For that reason, what wheels are hot for the year 2007?

According to auto analysts, this year is going to be a good year for cars. From trend-setting superminis to breathtaking supercars and everything in between, the needs and whims of the aficionados will certainly be answered. The auto industry is showered by lots of choices and that fact alone makes 2007 a very interesting year.

First on the desire list is the Audi R8 supercar which is scheduled to go on sale this summer. The car is priced at $120,000 to $130,000. It is based on the 2003 Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car, not the automaker’s R8 race car. It comes with a striking headlight design that uses LED technology. Audi said the internal reflectors of the new car resemble those found in miniature Sydney Opera Houses. Compared to conventional auto headlamps, LEDs used in the Audi R8 are smaller hence they do not occupy a great amount of space much to the pleasure of Audi designers.

Next on the must-drive list is Volvo S80. Bits of ridiculously sophisticated auto materials are put together by Volvo’s pool of designers to come up with a functional luxury sedan. The all-new sedan from the automaker is equipped with one-of-a-kind features like the in-car heartbeat monitor that alerts the driver through key fob when there is a person approaching the car. Volvo auto parts in the Volvo S80 are aftermaths of meticulous testing to boost performance, styling and safety.

What makes the Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG coupe a standout? Enthusiasts say it is the cruise control integrated in it that delivers an autopilot function for stop-and-go traffic. This is Mercedes’ way of aiding drivers to pay attention on the road ahead. The system is equipped with radars to monitor the distance of the car with other cars. The coupe steers, brakes and accelerates when required to trail another car.

Another irresistible lure to auto aficionados is the inclusion of mind-boggling upgrades to the automakers’ lineup. The upgraded models boast improved technology to make fanatics unable to resist. Come Lexus LS Hybrid, a vehicle that runs on gasoline or electricity. The regular version of the vehicle is powered by a V8 engine that produces 380 horsepower. The electric motor in the hybrid version assists the V8 to generate more than 430 units of horsepower. So far, the hybrid version of the Lexus LS is deemed a status symbol of choice.

Lexus is not the only automaker which has the nerve to show off its innovative prowess. Aston Martin, Maybach and Rolls-Royce also exhibited their pride vehicles. Aston Martin boasts of its V-8 Vantage Convertible. Maybach 62 S was also unveiled to create a hot-rod version of the 62 sedan. The Bentley Azure drop-top version is also made more captivating than before.

2007 is a year of remarkable auto innovations that could etch a worthy milestone for the industry. Aficionados clamoring for hot, high-end cars would be very much benefited.
