I would put a 700R4 in there. Just get the improved design so it lasts longer. Having overdrive is better than putting something like 3.07 in the rear. The upgraded 700R4 is not the 4l60E. The early 700r4 was very very unreliable. They upgraded internal parts to be stronger so it would last longer. That is what i mean by upgraded.

your rearend gear is wrong for that tranny. go oem if you can. why would you screw up a car for a loved one ? get her an effecient little car,not a whorehouse on wheels.

I had the same problem on a car once, i changed the transmission and it solved it….Does the rear end make any noise? if not then don’t sweat it

with a 3.73 rear end it shouldn’t be “racing”. Are you sure it is shifting into 3rd? Drive it from a dead stop and make sure you hear or feel it shift twice.

sounds like a trans problem maybe slipping check the oil level see if it smells burnt .

u donot give some info thats neeeded for a correct answer u may have a throtlel caypayle promblem or a governor propblem u did not say what car etc so how do u expect a wright answer

Well you could change up some gears go with like a 3.42 gear it is a good gas mileage gear. Now the 700r4 tranny would be a good upgrade. Do not get the upgraded one as someone else said that would be the 4L60E which takes a computer.

some transmissions have vacuum controlled lock up torque converter on firewall the switch has vacuum line and two wire plug .to much vacuum will cause this problem . disconnect plug and jump wire and try . PS i put switch on column to kick in at highway speed. the 4 speed is better and will solve problem also.
