You heard wrong. Take your hippie environmentalist crap elsewhere. Formula 1 has no time for hybrid engines or organic components.
Edit:
They’re just saying that to keep the environmentalists happy and keep them away but theres no chance in hell F1 will be using hybrid engines in proper races anytime soon.

I agree with Red Bull. There’s no way F-1 will make a move towards hybrid vehicles. there’s definitely no way that they will do that before 2010, considering that the FIA put a ban on engine development until 2010. I would think that if the FIA WERE “going green,” they would have told the teams TO start developing hybrid engines, NOT to stop engine development altogether.

Just like to re assure you that F1 will not be using Hybrid engines. Manufactures are trying to use F1 technology in their road cars. But no manufacturer is using road car technology in F1.

There is a move to regenerative systems which some might regard as akin to “hybrid” power. As I understand it, these systems can offer something like an extra 75bhp for 5 seconds so this could lead to some significant improvements in things like passing, if anyone remembers that in F1
A really quick car/driver might carry extra energy storage (total weight would not change, he’d just have less ballast), allowing him more power for longer which might allow him to zip past where historically a slower driver could block faster drivers for ages.

So far they’re going as far as KERS. But with the engine freeze, how’s it gonna be possible to switch to hybrid engines by 2010?

Yes, in 2010 or 2011(most probably) with turbo engines and bio fuel or diesel like the sportcars of lemans
