i have a newborn, three weeks old tomorrow. i have been using similac isomil advanced, i have been using this can for about a day now & i’ve noticed it’s not fully dissolving in the water, i shake it and shake it. when i look at the buttom of the bottle, i see the formula, it’s tan like & all bunched up together. does it always do this & i never noticed it before? the date on the can says 2009.

i didn’t use similac, i used enfamil. but the only times that that happened to me was if i added the formula after the water. when i put the formula in the bottle first and then added the water, i didn’t have the problem. other than that, i’m not sure.

do you mix it with lukewarm water? most formula’s you are supposed to , so that it does dissolve.. you may be just haveing the water too cold to dissolve it.
to be sure, go buy another can and see if it does the same thing.

try addin ALITTLE hot water to the formula and shakin the formula up and then addin more water. u can also take a butter knife and stiring the formula or u can add the water first then the formula that one works the best.

I use Similac Isomil Advance…Soy, and it does the same thing, has since I can remember. Im pretty sure its normal, also depends on the temp of the water you use. I use room temerature water now and it seems to dissolve better. If you let the bottle sit for a little bit before a feeding it will dissolve better as well

make sure you’re not packing the formula in the scoop, that could have something to do with why it’s not dissolving.

I think that you are using the powder. If you boil the water and put the formula in when the water is still hot you will not get that problem. Of course let the bottles cool before you give it to the baby.

To stop this from happening when you boil the water, mix it up before it is completly cool. Put the powder in first, then pour the not quite cooled water in and mix it with a a spoon or knife. This will help the powder disolve and stop the clumping.

I use to use similac, it ALWAYS did that for me. I hated it, the formula also made my baby sick, so we switched to good start. much better!!
