Allan asked:
Massa’s car was the heaviest of the top 5, Button’s was the lightest. Is this the big comeback or a false dawn?
PS don’t mention Kimi that was embarrassing, how can they make the same silly mistake twice in 5 races?

Its inevitable that Ferrari would catch up, only guess was when, still far from being the team to beat, keep thowing the money at it and they’ll catch up.
The Kimi failure sums up modern Ferrari and modern Kimi, over confident and underachieving.
Shock horror, with the grid line up, could be an interesting Spainish Gp!

It’s difficult as a Ferrari fan today to know if I’m supposed to be excited or frustrated. I can’t even imagine they could make that mistake again in Q1. But I am cautiously optimistic that they are now ready to contend for podiums and wins again.

I hope not! Ferrari have that skill of once they reach the top they cannot be budged for years at a time, as they have won 8 of the last 10 constructors champioships it makes a nice change to see another team at the top.

I have said it before, and stand by it with full confidence. Like Julian mentioned, Ferrari has huge resources and it’s just a question of time before they catch up. Last weekend’s tests were positive, and they brought the improvements in Spain in stride. Massa’s times were proof that we are seeing a comeback. Issues of reliability and team management are not clear yet (well, at least we can say that team management skills are still out-of-sync), but the speed is back. Not at the top, but very close. With KERS at the start, if Massa steals a couple of positions, he can fight for podium. Quite in contrast with previous races.
As far as Kimi’s qualifying strategy: Embarrassing and totally unexpected. People usually learn from their mistakes. It seems that at Ferrari they haven’t learned anything. If I were Luca di Montezemolo I would be very puzzled to find a solution. Who am I going to fire? Who am I going to castrate? Or how many TV sets should I smash in hope of some remedy?

This could actually be a turning point for Ferrari and Massa, because he has more fuel on board compared to the Brawn GP cars, thus he will have make a pit stop after the two Brawn cars, which could put him in a good position…so, my prediction…we could see Massa on the podium in today’s race!!

“When” was the question, Barcelona is the answer!
If Massa makes no mistakes, podium is up for grabs and with the KERS launch along with the well fueled car, Ferrari has a strategic advantage. Looks like Button will have to struggle to maintain his pace on heavier fuel loads.
As for Kimi, its time to send a message to the team on how they need to be more professional by showing a scorcher. He has the pace, he has the car and he has the skills for it. Watch out for that red machine today.
We are back!

It is sort of, but everybody knew that Ferrari would catch up a little, thanks to their resources. Heaviest of the top 5, yes, but they are also carrying KERS, so they probably don’t have that much more fuel on board compared to the main rivals.
Without extensive testing, I don’t think one can expect them to have made a comprehensive improvement. They may have more rear downforce from their new diffuser, but the tyres might degrade quicker as a result and their race pace may fade after a few laps.
Having said that, they say that if you are fast in Barcelona, you will be fast in most other circuits. They are going in the right direction for sure.
