I have been reading some Ferrari fan forums and F1 forums in general. I think the Ferrari fans know they can’t win this season. A few fans have mentioned that if Mclaren is again not punished at the Sept appeal, Ferrari should withdraw their cars in protest because they have nothing to lose.

So, if Mclaren gets no penalty for having Ferrari IP, should Ferrari pull their cars from the remaining races and re-examine their commitment to F1 for 2008?

No, I think they should continue to race and let the system work itself out, even though we know nothing will happen to McLaren. It would be a disservice to the fans to withdraw their cars… not that F1 really cares about the fans anyway.

While you make what ostensibly seems to be a valid point, we should not quickly forget that Ferrari received no penalty for clearly breaking the rules with their movable floor, which likely contributed to their win in the Australian GP of the 2007 season.
Let’s also think about the fact that it was a Ferrari employee that gave the IP to the McClaren team member. By the standard being applied here–team culpability due to possession, regardless of knowledge or use by the team or its principals–Ferrari basically planted the IP and then turned and did all they could to try to get McLaren out of the points, thus guaranteeing a win for the season. The FIA found McClaren guilty of possession, but not of use of the IP. If a standard is to be upheld, and McClaren penalised for possession, then Ferrari should also be penalised for willfully passing documents to another team (a bit of subterfuge), and then claiming theft and unfair advantage.
If, in the end, in the very unlikely event that Ferrari decide to pull out of the remainder of the season in protest, it will not only be a major loss for them, but for fans the world over. It cannot happen, it must not happen.
That’s just my personal feeling on the matter.

No. They should not give way to McLaren so easily. Although McLaren seem unstoppable, it doesn’t mean Ferrari don’t have a chance. The best they can do is try to minimize the difference in points.
By withdrawing themselves, it doesn’t fulfill their demand for justice. In fact, McLaren will be sniggering to themselves because Ferrari moved out of their way- it means less rivalry and what’s more, Ferrari is the second best team on grid for now. Plus, all their efforts would have been wasted.
Ferrari should fight to the end!!!!!!!!

ferrari are certainly no angels when it comes to illegal parts, dirty tricks etc. what would be the point of running off and crying in the corner. if they want to prove something then they should stay and race. I’m sure Kimi and Massa would want to finish the season in the car rather than watching from the sidelines.

No they should not do that. Not only is that just not sportsmanlike but it would really get Ferrari in the FIA’s doghouse. Do your fighting out on the track.

Ferrari would not withdraw from F1 as they make too much cash and sales out of it also Kimi & Massa who are needing the championship points would end up kicking mery hell as it concerns them and their future.Dont be surprised if Ferrari deliberately leaked the info to McLaren as they new early in the season that they were going to be losers this year
