I have to admit I’m kind of happy for him as well. He has been a test driver for god knows how long and I think that this is loyalty well rewarded. I have to admit though I am not really sure how well he is going to go. I think he holds the record for most starts without getting any points. I’m not 100% sure on that though. And this has to be some kind of record for time between F1 drives. However I hope he does well. Although I have to say I would had loved to have seen Schumacher put a rocket up Kimi’s backside.

Badoer’s been a loyal servant, but other than that….I cant see him producing many fireworks. Worst thing about Schu changing his plan is that Valencia has just lost all its interest, its back to being a dull romp round a dodgy dockland again.
Edit, Ferrari didn’t think Badoer was up to the job 10 years ago! has he improved? Gene might have been a better bet, slightly, sort off, maybe…

He should have been Massa’s replacement from the outset being Ferrari’s test driver and all. He knows the car better than Schumacher probably would but he won’t have Schumacher’s seemingly natural speed. But it’s not like Ferrari were producing fireworks* this season though so they don’t have that much to lose.
*Is that even a saying??? You know what I mean!

he is bound to be desperate to prove himslef worthy of the seat, but as Allan has said…ten years has not shown significant improvement, but hey, it would make Valencia interesting if he turned out to have been hiding a very large light under the red bushel.

That’s tough to answer. On the one hand, Badoer has never scored points in an F1 race. On the other hand, he was driving for Minardi, ’nuff said in that regard. I don’t see race wins for Badoer, but with Ferrari, he could sneak in some points at the dull end of the scale: positions 5-8.

At least Kimi doesnt need to worry!
September 24th 2009
I’m really pleased for him that his loyalty has been rewarded, albeit it in a backhanded manner. But as others have pointed out, his race record is pretty abysmal. I guess he know the car well. Valencia is going to be so dull anyway, so a different driver might give us a small point of interest. I will laugh my a$$ off if he beats Kimi!
September 27th 2009
Hopefully he will score somepoints and not be the most experienced driver not to score points.
P.S I’m delighted he now has a chance in a Ferrari, he should of stepped in for MS in 1999

There’s a reason that Badoer tests cars instead of racing them: he isn’t a top driver, and he doesn’t have the mental toughness to be a racing driver. As soon as things get hard, he quits.
Personally I rate Marc Gene much more highly, but Ferrari have probably decided to give Badoer a long-service award seeing as nothing important is at stake.
October 4th 2009
Has he ever scored a point in his career?
Least things can only get better.
Very strange that a team like Ferrari have such a bare cupboard when it comes to reserve drivers they can call upon.
October 4th 2009
The season’s written off, there’s nothing to lose, thank you very much for your long loyal service, here’s the reward, Mr Badoer.
He will do a good job with the setup work on Friday and Saturday. He will get interviewed by a few journalists, and will say something like “It’s fantastic to be driving at a Grand Prix once again and hopefully I will have a lot of fun and score some points and etc….and I hope Felipe and Michael will get better soon and yes, I know the car very well because I am the tester and Marc Gene can go to hell ‘coz I’ve been with Ferrari longer than him”
He will srape through Q1. Miss out on Q3. Heavy fuel for the race. Lose a couple of positions at the first corner (if he is too cautious) or lose his nosecone (if he is too rusty and ambitious). He will probably end up coming 9th or something and will be forever forgotten if Massa comes back in the race after! Or Gene replaces him!
Good luck to him.

I hope Badoer scores a point. I remember 1999 European Grand Prix, coming 4th in a Minardi and the car just failed and he was in tears.
I hope he scores a lot of points

who knows, for me it’s KIMI being the stand-out number 1 driver in the ferrari camp and what he’ll be able to acheive with it. that is the big question for me .
