Tired Atheist asked:
I mean it’s pointless even if it’s good as those racing cars you see on TV because you can’t go that fast on your local road,if you were to,you’ll get a ticket and say bye bye to 500 bucks.
And you’ll have to dispose it once it gets old.

Because we are a selfish, hotheaded and materialistic nation, my friend. People buy it just to show off how much money they have and how “cool” they are. You know the show MTV Cribs? The celebrities there always have these fancy cars. They buy them because they have nothing better to do with their money.
So i’m guessing people buy them to get some “celebrity” status.

I suppose some buy them because they are able to, ego will play a role in for many, and some buy them for the quality and the fact that it really is a sports car instead of an imitations such as a pontiac. People also buy them because they like them.
Those that can buy them, I am sure, are not worried about a measly $500 ticket. And if you take care of the car and have it maintained, you won’t have to dispose of it once it gets old (like muscle cars).
Sometime because those cars are a real sports car, they most likely have better safety features than other cars. The problem still lies in, however, having a truck roll on top of you. Other than that, I guess you will have to ask someone who owns one.

People buy Ferrari for Name & Beauty and show off to the surrounding,
They cannot performance unless is a speed driver with permit. No value when selling because no buyer as those who want will buy new one for pride.

I think most of it has to do with the pathetic side of male dominance.
“I’m better than you, as a person, because I own a car that cost me a ridiculous sum of money!”
I couldn’t really tell you, myself, as to why rich people buy these cars. I think it’s a status symbol, and nothing more. There are cars that you can buy, from stock, that can beat out a ferrari. I believe Mitsubishi sells one, that runs for some price under $100,000. While Ferrari’s can cost in the upwards of a half a mil. I watched a documentary on the SPEED channel about this once. Quite interesting, that it beat out the Ferrari in nearly every aspect of capability and gas milage even!
I don’t understand why people want a luxurious speedy car at all. If I was gonna get a sickly fast car, I would want an oldy with a new engine in it. My personal favorites are Mustangs, any of them from the 50’s and 60’s. Whew… They sure are nice lookin cars. And classy to boot!
Anywho, I couldn’t tell you why people buy them. There’s no pride to be taken in a fast car that someone else built! I don’t think they understand that at all. Nor do they care about the tickets they may, or may not, receive. Lame…
Best of luck in the search for your answer, if that doesn’t explain it enough for ya!

To make you envious or jealous.
Displays of wealth are not subtle symbols. After all, one doesn’t buy a Ferrari and then keep hidden from public view in a garage. Public displays, in many ways, are for the reactions they hope to provoke in others.
How else do you let the world know that you have arrived and achieved something buy placing your objects of wealth in public view.

I don’t think that’s exactly true with what everyone is saying. Personally, I love cars. If I were a millionaire, I’d buy an Audi R8, or a porsche, or maybe a sporty mercedes. I think a lot of people like cars, not to show off but for the feel of it. It’s like the excitement of riding a plane or when you were young and rode your bicycle. You feel the control, you hear the perfect engine sound, the aesthetics of the car, the way it just goes over bumps so floaty, or maybe even the sound system playing your favorite music. It just makes my day being in one of those. Top speed isn’t that important to me but having acceleration is fun. Some people even show more affection to their cars than people.

Yes most people use them as status symbols. Personally if I owned one though, I would find some good roads where I could use the speed, and actually enjoy the car, rather than just to show it off.
