Do it, just make sure you have another in case you “crash”. A lot of those energy drinks will do that - you pay for that energy rush with a severe lack of it later, otherwise known as a crash. So buy 2 in case the swimmeet is long.

No. people should not drink that stuff period. health risks. Dehydrates your body. Link to heath site about “Energy Drinks.”

Energy drinks are good for a boost of energy, not always endurance. However, if you do have one you will also need at least 2 glasses of water with it. Caffeine takes more water to process than the energy drink provides so it takes extra water from our bodies. This dehydrates us and that is the last thing you want to happen before any type of strenuous activity such as a swim meet.
To offset the dehydrating effects I always recommend 1 ounce of water for every 5 mg of caffeine. Red Bulls have 80mg per serving. However, if you have one of those new Red Bull shots rather than the regular Red Bull then you will need even more water. The shots the the most moronic thing that energy drink companies could have done becasue of there being so much caffeine and so little water.
The crash from energy drinks that people refer too is from the dehydrating effects. When we are dehydrated we feel tired. So if you are not properly hydrated all of the caffeine and other stimulants don’t do their job when the sugar rush ends. Many people feel tired and think they need more caffeine when they really need water. So the folks here who tell you to have more energy drinks for the crash are just as mornic as the energy drink companies that now make shots.
