San Diego - Red Bull Air Race 2007 — do we need to buy tickets to see?

We have a tentative trip to San Diego this weekend and if we make it, would love to see the Air Races there.. my question is.. do we need to buy tickets for this show? Can we just watch them from some vista point near-by? If so, can you suggest some locations? Thanks!
